Close your eyes if you haven’t seen it yet… but Raymond’s second series of the Restaurant is over with a cheerful finish.
I have to say, I thought Michele and Russell were going to be extremely annoying at the beginning – how can anyone be that damn cheery and content the whole time?
But they’ve done it. James and Alasdair were just never going to make it, with their very odd working relationship. I did have a soft spot for James though – you could just see how badly he wanted it.
I just wanted to give Alasdair a good shake, as he bumbled through, mixing his turbot with his halibut.
My iPlayer was just too slow tonight so I had to cheat a bit to find out the winners. Hopefully I’ll get it tomorrow night without the lag… seems to be going like a dream now.
Over on this blog Wadds put his money on J&A… no way! Though James was definitely the most talented chef.

I did feel that Alasdair improved but I can’t say the same about Michelle, and I was personally disgusted last night when she “smirked” as Mr Raymond Blanc brought the boys up on a point! she was no assistance to Russell at all.
James was the better Chef and David the judge states in an interview this morning in “The Caterer”, he said he would have gone for James and Alasdair as he saw so much of himself in them, but Russel was steady and in the current financial climate perhaps that is what is needed, it is Mr Blanc’s money at risk!
The good news is that Russell and Michelle will be trained fully by Mr Blanc as he has not found a restaurant yet and Also he is going to train James and Alasdair as well for 3 months, so I am sure he does see some real potential.
The Restaurant Final though for me was so badly edited, it did not seem to flow, it would take up points and never complete them, people complained about the gifts bit we were never told the budget, what was most important a small gift or red, white wine and port for the cheese course? – The announcement of the winner was so flat and seemed a total damp squid.
I agree! And Michele and Russell just didn’t seem darn well happy enough at the end: c’mon guys- you’ve been given a restaurant! It was weird how Raymond got so excited about the little chocoloates – that’s what they did in the first place anyway.
I saw the first season of this show and loved it. It seemed like a cross between “The Aprenctice” (the boardroom scenes) and “Top Chef.” But it had a whole lot more civility to it, which was nice.
yes, even if some of the contestants were more there as ‘good telly’ than good chefs (no-one too extreme though) … roll on next year!
