For some reason I didn’t get excited enough by food this Christmas to write a blog post.
I’m really not sure why because my mum cooked an amazing baked cheesecake, (Dan Lepard’s East end recipe from the Guardian), I ate from giant paella dishes in a marquee on New Year’s Eve, we had more crispy pigs in blankets on Xmas day than ever (and double the length)…
But did I take a single photo? No! Maybe I was all computer-ed and blogged out.
No matter. On with 2009. Looking at previous posts I realise I haven’t really been doing the Brighton part of this blog at all. I guess that’s because I end up in London many weekends.
But to do a bit more justice to my geographical patch and resist simply blogging about the new series of MasterChef (poor old accountant John over-cooking his chilli sauce marinated pork chop and getting in a tangle in the professional kitchen), here’s how I’ll be economically eating out in the next few weeks.
Bill’s have been really rather generously giving out a voucher on the bottom of their receipts (not sure if that’s finished now): a free bottle of wine Mon-Thurs evenings. Super! I will follow this up with pics, which is the only way of illustrating the wondrous organic heaving larder that is Bill’s. It’s not somewhere you’d probably think of going for a mid-week meal (maybe explains why they’re promoting it) but now I’m very much looking forward to it. To think I thought quiche was boring as a child. If the Gods ate quiche, they’d sure as hell eat Bill’s.
And then to the Times, who have got their £5 meal deal back on. Collect a voucher and four tokens (one available free online) from the daily newspapers and take them to selected restaurants and four people can eat two-three courses for £5 (though £10-15 in some places). Brighton and thereabouts eateries listed below (click the link at the end of this for full list). Just remember to book ahead and mention the vouchers.

I know what you mean about taking pictures. Half the time, we made a huge mess out of something previously photograph-able before I slap my hand to my forehead and say, “I should have taken a picture. Good job, Jen.”
Looking forward to more when you get inspired:)
